The article covers one of our favorite group activities - our Escape Artist Retreats. Its a really fun way to unwind with your art friends and escape from daily life.

Thursday, April 14, I will be teaching a class for the Monroe Quilt Guild, on how to make a sunflower art quilt. Then, in the evening I'll do a lecture and trunk show. My talk is called," Habits of a Highly Productive Quilter". I will show about 70 art quilts, or more. If you are interested in art quilts, come take a look.

annual art retreat

we had our annual art retreat this weekend
and lots of creating was going on
from another amazing assemblage from sidney....

to some fun stuff emily was whipping up, showing off her credit card holders she was making for gifts....

some of carol's amazing ribbon embroidery, her boxes full of wonderful colors we all were drooling over.....

and oh lordy this is fergus, one of kate's little pals. i love him. he is a knitter.

Running with Scissors is proud to present out 2nd Handmade Marketplace. This year we've reached out to artists beyond our group to make it even more exciting!

There will be a wide variety of handmade items on display ranging from art quilts, knitted & crocheted items, handmade cards, plushies, jewelry and much much more.

it's finally expo weekend!

this morning lynn, myself, emily, sidney and anne met up and hung our running with scissors

display at the expo~ it went great! we got there super early to claim our spot and got to work right away.

what a great bunch of artists we have in our group....from traditional quilters to art quilters and beyond. everyone has their own unique hand to their art and its fun to see someone's work and know immediatly who's work it is!

alot of the work was from this past year and previous years challenges we do as a group.

i hope everyone can make it out to the expo to see all our hard work we have been doing.

and this will only get better....we are already thinking of next year's challenges!

Great Lakes Small Works Exhibition - Riverside Gallery

The Great Lakes Small Works Exhibition will be showing at the Riverside Gallery in Ypsilanti, Michigan from September 2-25, 2010. Gallery hours are Thursday - Saturday from 1:30-4pm.

The show is a juried exhibition of small 2D and 3D works from artists residing in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The maximum dimensions for work in the show is 12" in any direction, proving that small work can indeed pack a big punch.

Two members of Running with Scissors will have work in the show.

Anne Hiemstra had three works accepted, including Heron Hunting 5 (shown below):

Lynn Krawczyk had one piece accepted, Dream Time Graffiti 2 (shown below):

The exhibit's Opening Reception is on Saturday September 11 from 5pm-7pm. Please stop by if you can!

sunday workshop day!

what a great day we all had at scrappy chic , this past sunday!
we decided to have a workshop day for some fun challenges~ one of an accordion book and another of a stretched canvas collage.
as always, everyone did something fun!

this is my accordion book, its of my husband and i. it is not easy at all to pick a theme when you like so many things!

emily talking to lynn about something cool~probably the neat things she keeps finding at yard sales and junk stores! and the things she was doing with corrugated plastic was really neat.

it was a fun filled day, there were 17 of us who showed up to have some creative time.

surface design weekend

Earlier this month, several members of Running with Scissors gathered at a local hotel for a weekend of printing fabric.

I did demos on gelatin plate printing, thermofax screen printing and soy wax batik. The image above are the example I brought of fabric that I printed along with some of the supplies I brought to do the demos.

Bird of Paradise, and Red Hibiscus are two of my art quilts that are included in the show at Charlevoix Circle of Arts, One of a Kind: Fiber and Furniture show. The exhibit opens July 17, and runs until Sept. 19, 2010.

Golden Artist Colors lecture at the Northville Art House

On Sunday May 23, the members of Running with Scissors attended a lecture about Golden Artist Color at the Northville Art House.

Working artist Valerie Allen gave a two and a half hour lecture about all the products that Golden has to offer and how we, as fiber and mixed media artists, can make the most of the gels and mediums.

It was a fantastic time and more lectures will be organized at the Art House. Stay tuned for future announcements!
